A new visitor center

A new Visitor Center at the Palais des Nations to discover the United Nations family in Geneva.

The Fondation Portail des Nations is currently building a new Visitor Center for the United Nations in Geneva. This new UN Geneva Visitor Center, located at the entrance of the Palais des Nations (along the Alley of Flags), will open its doors to the public on 20 March 2026.

In addition to the guided tours of Palais des Nations, the Visitor Center, open 7 days a week, from 9 am to 6 pm, will offer an immersive experience dedicated to the multilateral role and the work of the United Nations in Geneva. Box office opens on January 13, 2026.

Origin

The Portail des Nations project is an initiative led by Ivan Pictet. He responded to the call made by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, during his swearing-in before the UN General Assembly on 12 December 2016.

“I am convinced that we must anticipate the growing demand for information from a broad audience eager to better understand global challenges and the issues that arise from them, as well as to become more familiar with the responses provided by multilateralism embodied by the United Nations and other international organizations based in Geneva.”

IVAN PICTET
President of the Fondation Portail des Nations

“We need to communicate more effectively about what we do so that everyone can understand. We need to fundamentally reform our communication strategy by modernising the tools and channels through which we engage with the world.”

Behind the scenes

The project to build a set of five pavilions, representing a total area of nearly 2,000 m², was born out of the need for UN Geneva to have an entrance and facilities dedicated to welcoming visitors to the Palais des Nations.
